Ø  Equipment Name:  Biological Safety Cabinets

Ø  Location: Rm. 608, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: ThermoScientific* Herasafe KS biological safety cabinets deliver maximum safety, comfort and

convenience. Featuring an advanced design, these cabinets are ideal in research, pharmaceutical and clinical facilities.

Ø  Equipment Name:  CO2 Incubator

Ø  Location: Rm. 608, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: Thermo Scientific* Heracell i series tri-gas incubators allow convenient oxygen control and are available in

noncorrosive stainless steel or 100% pure copper. Thermo Scientific Heracell itri-gas incubators provide the ideal in vitro

environment: clean, reliable and easy to use, protecting valuable samples while optimizing cell growth.

Ø  Equipment Name: Ultracentrifuge

Ø  Location: Rm. 609, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: The Beckman Coulter Optima TLX Ultracentrifuge is a table top ultracentrifuge that can be used for a

variety of high speed applications. This system has an easy to use control panel a temperature control system a

self-purging vacuum system a programmable memory that can store up to 10 different profiles and more.

Because this high speed system has a maximum speed of 120000rpm, it comes with safety features that include

a steel chamber door which has an electromechanical door locking mechanism.

Ø  Equipment Name: Flow Cytometer

Ø  Location: Rm. 601, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Sally Lee (sallylee@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: Employed in cell counting, sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering, by suspending cells in a

stream of fluid and passing them by an electronic detection apparatus. It allows simultaneous multiparametric analysis

of the physical and / or chemical characteristics of up to thousands of particles per second.

Ø  Equipment Name: Real-Time PCR Instrument

Ø  Location: Rm. 609, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: Provide a technique based on the polymerase chain reaction, which is used to amplify and

simultaneously quantify a targeted DNA molecule. For one or more specific sequences in a DNA sample,

Real Time-PCR instrument enables both detection and quantification.

Ø  Equipment Name: 2D Gel Electrophoresis System

Ø  Location: Rm. 609, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: Bio-Rad two dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis system is considered to be the best option for high-

resolution profiling of low abundance proteins. The analysis of complex protein samples can be tedious, time-

consuming and expensive. Recent advancements in sample fractionation and 2D electrophoresis enable researchers

to overc ome these problems in identifying low abundance proteins in complex biological samples.

Ø  Name: Molecular Imager System

Ø  Location: Rm. 609, SCM

Ø  Technician: Ms. Hilda Cheung (hildacys@hkbu.edu.hk)

Ø  Description: The Molecular Imager® Gel Doc™ XR documentation system is a fast, easy-to-use and  high-resolution

gel imaging system. It includes darkroom; camera; UV- and white-light illumination; filter slider with amber filter; and

UV-protection shield. Easy-to-use "capture and print" Quantity One® 1-D analysis software and unlimited copies of

Quantity One Basic software are also included.

Ø  Equipment Name: UV Spectrophotometer
